Privacy Policy
Last updated:
SilverScrin ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using SilverScrin, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
When you create a SilverScrin account, we collect your name and email address. If you subscribe to our service, your payment is processed securely by Stripe — we never store your full card number or billing details on our servers.
We also collect basic usage data: which films you watch, how long you watch them, and items you add to your watchlist. This data is used solely to power your member dashboard and improve our catalog recommendations.
We collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, referring URL) for security and performance monitoring. These logs are retained for 30 days and then deleted.
How We Use Your Information
Your email address is used to send account-related communications: subscription confirmations, password resets, and occasional product updates. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email.
Watch history and watchlist data are used exclusively to display your personal dashboard. We do not sell, rent, or share this data with third parties for advertising purposes.
Aggregate, anonymised viewing data (e.g., "Horror films are watched most on Friday nights") may be used internally to guide catalog decisions.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We share your data only with the service providers necessary to operate SilverScrin: Stripe (payment processing) and our hosting infrastructure provider. Both are contractually bound to process your data only on our behalf.
We do not sell your personal data. We will disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of SilverScrin and its users.
All films on SilverScrin are sourced from the Internet Archive (archive.org). When you stream a film, your browser may make requests directly to Archive.org servers, which are subject to the Internet Archive's own privacy policy.
Data Retention & Deletion
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your account and associated data remain on file for 90 days in case you wish to reactivate, after which they are permanently deleted.
To request immediate deletion of your account and all associated data, email us at [email protected]. We will process your request within 30 days.
Security
We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for all data in transit. Passwords are hashed using a strong one-way algorithm and are never stored in plain text. Access to production databases is restricted to authorised personnel only.
Despite our best efforts, no system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at [email protected].
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. You may also have the right to data portability and to object to certain processing activities.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you by email.
Your continued use of SilverScrin after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
